10 ChatGPT Prompting Techniques and Guidelines for Generating Accurate, Human-like Content

10 ChatGPT Prompting Technics and Guidelines for Generating Accurate, Human-like content.

If you are reading this you are on week one of my free ai-powered digital marketing course.

This article will give you more technics and tricks to use when training AI writing assistants to generate content that is relatable to your target audience and achieve your intended goals.

In recent years, AI has transformed how we create content. Statistics show that up to 60% of marketers now rely on AI writing assistants like Chat GPT to enhance their writing processes. However, the key to effective AI-generated content lies in how you interact with it.

Think of Chat GPT as a tool not a brain. Its core function is to assist and not think up. This is the main reason why your content sounds robotic and unrelatable.

Crafting the right prompts can make a significant difference in achieving realistic and accurate results. This article explores practical techniques and guidelines for prompting Chat GPT, ensuring you obtain human-like content every time.

Feel free to copy and paste these prompts and use them when you need to create content, draft an email newsletter, or Copywrite a YouTube script.

Defining the Prompt

At its core, a prompt is your request to the AI to help you carry out a given task. Good prompts share three key features:

  • Clarity: The prompt should be easy to understand and to the point.
  • Specificity: Be precise about what you want in the best way possible.
  • Context: Provide background information that helps shape the response.

Types of Prompts

Prompts can come in various forms, including:

  • Instructional Prompts: Directly instruct the AI on what to do. Example: “Write a detailed summary of the book ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’.”
  • Conversational Prompts: Engage the AI as if it’s a chat partner. Example: “What is your opinion on renewable energy? Give statistics and facts to support the line of thought”
  • Role-Playing Prompts: Assign a specific role to the AI. Example: “As a history teacher, explain the significance of the Declaration of Independence. Be entertaining and factual”

Iterative Prompting

Refining prompts based on initial outputs is crucial. If the first response isn’t what you expected, tweak the prompt for clarity or context. This iterative approach often leads to better results.

“You are an e-commerce manager for a ____[insert industry, e.g., sustainable clothing brand]. Write a ___[insert tone, e.g., eco-conscious and empowering] product description for a new item. Use ____[insert writing style, e.g., descriptive and benefit-driven] language, and write in the tone of ___[insert personality, e.g., Blake Mycoskie]. The description should be ____[insert number of words, e.g., 100-150 words] and include details about materials, sizing, and the brand’s mission. Focus on converting browsers into buyers.”

Crafting Clear and Specific Prompts

Detailed prompts can lead to much more accurate results. For instance:

  • Vague Prompt: “Tell me about Kling ai.” (NO)
  • Specific Prompt: “Explain the difference between Kling ai and Runway, focusing on effectiveness, functionality, and pricing.” (YES)

Be annoyingly specific because it narrows down the focus and allows Chat GPT to provide a well-rounded response that services your primary objectives.

Providing Context

Providing background information helps shape the AI’s output. For example:

  • Without Context: “What’s the weather?”
  • With Context: “Give me the weather forecast for Seattle this weekend.”

The added context can significantly enhance the relevance and accuracy of the information. Here is a good example of providing context in a prompt:

Develop a comprehensive business proposal for a mobile application designed to motivate and empower young men (ages 18-25) from middle and lower-class backgrounds in the United States and India to become more proactive and achieve their goals. The app should specifically address the challenges of procrastination and lack of motivation commonly experienced by this demographic. The proposal should be structured in a clear, point-form format”

Defining Desired Tone and Style

This is the most important part of your prompt and is responsible for humanizing your content to be relatable. To guide Chat GPT in adopting a particular tone, make it clear in your prompt. For example:

  • Formal Tone: “Write a formal letter to a client regarding a contract renewal.”
  • Humorous Tone: “Share a funny story about a cat getting stuck in a tree.”

This approach helps ensure the final output matches your expectations. One of my favourite technics is using media personalities and popular stars in my prompt:

  • Formal Tone: “Write a promotional email about my best seller product in the style of James bond 007.”
  • Humorous Tone: “Draft an engaging script for my ad about my online course in the tone of the main character from Wolf of Wall Street.”

“Pretend you are a copywriter for a [insert industry, e.g., tech startup]. Write a [insert tone, e.g., professional and innovative] landing page for a new SaaS product. Use [insert writing style, e.g., benefit-driven and concise] language, and write in the tone of [insert personality, e.g., Elon Musk]. The copy should be [insert number of words, e.g., 300-400 words] and include a strong headline, subheadings, and a clear call-to-action. Focus on solving the customer’s pain points.”

1. Formal (serious)
2. Casual (relaxed)
3. Authoritative (assertive)
4. Friendly (warm)
5. Humorous (funny)
6. Inspirational (inspiring)
7. Urgent (direct)
8. Professional (expert)
9. Playful (usually catchy)
10. Neutral (if you are undecided)

Leveraging Advanced Prompting Techniques

Few-Shot Learning

This technique involves providing a few examples in your prompt to guide the AI. For instance:

  • Prompt: “Here are examples of healthy snacks: apple slices with peanut butter, Greek yogurt with honey. Suggest two more healthy snacks.”

By doing this, the AI understands the desired format and context. Remember that prompting is not giving work to the AI tool so it can work for you, rather its a tool to help you achieve your desired outcome. Help it by prooviding examples to keep it on track and focused on what you want.

“Pretend you are a social media manager for a ____[insert industry, e.g., fitness brand]. Write a ___[insert tone, e.g., motivational and energetic] Instagram caption for a new product launch. Follow the layout of this caption example ______ [copy and paste a popular caption]. Use ____[insert writing style, e.g., concise and engaging] language, and write in the tone of ____[insert personality, e.g., Gary Vaynerchuk]. The caption should be ____[insert number of words, e.g., 50-75 words] and include a call-to-action encouraging followers to visit the website. Focus on creating urgency and excitement.”

Chain-of-Thought Prompting

This method encourages the AI to break down its reasoning. An example prompt might be:

  • Prompt: “List the steps involved in planning a lucrative email newsletter about food blogging.”

By prompting the AI to think through the process, you get a clearer, more structured response. Speaking of newsletters, i know there are some people that have been planning on starting a newsletter but dont know where to start. Here is a prompt for that

Craft a compelling and engaging email newsletter for a _________ (niche) audience. The primary objective of this newsletter is to _________ (objective – e.g., drive sales, increase brand awareness, nurture leads, announce a new product). The overall tone of the newsletter should be _________ (tone – e.g., professional, friendly, humorous, informative, motivational).

Fill in the blanks to help your AI writing assistant.

Role-Playing and Persona-Based Prompts

A lot of “AI gurus” discredit this method. They say its irrelevant and does not help Chat GPT in any way. I don’t agree with this fully. It is optional but certainly makes a huge difference. Assigning specific roles can create more engaging outputs. A good example would be:

  • Prompt: “You are a travel guide. Describe the top three attractions in Paris.”

This can result in a more nuanced and tailored response.

“Act as a video scriptwriter for a [insert industry, e.g., software company]. Write a [insert tone, e.g., dynamic and educational] script for a YouTube ad promoting a new feature. Use [insert writing style, e.g., engaging and solution-oriented] language, and write in the tone of [insert personality, e.g., Seth Godin]. The script should be [insert number of words, e.g., 200-250 words] and include a hook, problem statement, solution, and call-to-action. Focus on keeping viewers engaged until the end.”

Refining Output and Iterative Improvement

Identifying and Correcting Inaccuracies

Review the AI’s output for any biases or factual errors. If something seems off, rephrase your prompt.

Editing and Post-Processing

Human review is key. Editing the output ensures the content is accurate and flows well. This step cannot be overlooked for quality assurance.

A/B Testing Prompts

Testing variations of a prompt can yield better results. For example, if one prompt yields a satisfactory response, try a slight modification to see how the result changes. This method can help optimize your prompting strategy.

“Act as an influencer marketer for a [insert industry, e.g., beauty brand]. Write a [insert tone, e.g., collaborative and enthusiastic] outreach email to a micro-influencer. Use [insert writing style, e.g., personalized and professional] language, and write in the tone of [insert personality, e.g., Sophia Amoruso]. The email should be [insert number of words, e.g., 200-250 words] and include a brief introduction, why you’re reaching out, and a clear proposal for collaboration. Focus on building a genuine connection.”

Or you can put a different prompt that could achieve a better result according to your needs and objectives.

“Act as a content strategist for a [insert industry, e.g., travel blog]. Write a [insert tone, e.g., adventurous and inspiring] blog post outline about [insert topic, e.g., top 10 destinations for solo travelers]. Use [insert writing style, e.g., detailed and SEO-optimized] structure, and write in the tone of [insert personality, e.g., Anthony Bourdain]. The outline should include [insert number of sections, e.g., 5-7 headings] and bullet points for each section. Focus on providing actionable tips and engaging storytelling.”

Do not do this, please!

Vague Prompts

Vague prompts often lead to unsatisfactory results. A clear and defined prompt is essential for quality output. Pro tip: If you are unsure of what you want the AI tool to achieve for you simply engage in a back-and-forth conversation to begin with.  You get a better understanding of what you want to achieve.

“Act as a Facebook group manager for a [insert industry, e.g., online course community]. Write a [insert tone, e.g., welcoming and engaging] post to encourage members to participate in a new challenge. Use [insert writing style, e.g., conversational and interactive] language, and write in the tone of [insert personality, e.g., Marie Forleo]. The post should be [insert number of words, e.g., 100-150 words] and include a question to spark discussion. Emphasize the value of joining the challenge.”

Prompt Injection Attacks

Be aware of the risks associated with prompts trying to manipulate responses. Use prompts that are straightforward and protect against misleading interpretations.

Be as simple and straightforward as possible. Big and fancy words don’t impress Chat GPT.  The best policy is to give it information like you would talk to a friend.

“Pretend you are a media buyer for a [insert industry, e.g., fashion brand]. Write a [insert tone, e.g., bold and aspirational] ad script for a Facebook ad campaign targeting [insert audience, e.g., young professionals]. Use [insert writing style, e.g., punchy and benefit-focused] language, and write in the tone of [insert personality, e.g., Steve Jobs]. The script should be [insert number of words, e.g., 50-75 words] and include a hook, key benefits, and a strong call-to-action. Focus on driving clicks to the website.”

Ethical Considerations

Use AI responsibly. Avoid plagiarism by giving credit where it’s due and steer clear of generating biased content. Ethical AI usage is crucial.

“Pretend you are an SEO specialist for a [insert industry, e.g., home improvement business]. Write a [insert tone, e.g., informative and authoritative] meta description for a blog post about [insert topic, e.g., DIY kitchen renovations]. Use [insert writing style, e.g., keyword-rich and concise] language, and write in the tone of [insert personality, e.g., Neil Patel]. The meta description should be [insert number of words, e.g., 120-150 characters] and include a primary keyword. Focus on driving clicks from search engine results.”
